The Wolf-monkey!

The Werewolf-monkey

A Werewolf-monkey is a TERRIFYING creature. This particular creature lurks in the night with the full moon out. If you come across this creature, RUN LIKE THE WIND! Just run. Don’t make too much noise, keep reading to find out why. This mammal is the most dangerous of rare animals because It can transform into a cute monkey. (Nek Minute) The cute little monkey is your worst nightmare! (Scary Music)
We are going right into the lives of: The werewolf monkey.
The werewolf monkey, with David Attenborough.
The werewolf monkey feeds on rotten bananas, unlike its normal monkey brother.
If a werewolf monkey eats a very ripe banana, it has a 50-50 % chance of being returned to normal.

On a full moon, this creature will grow more fur, claws, and will become much MUCH stronger. So BEWARE!
There are only a few left in the world. This is good because this is the most dangerous creature in the world!
The Werewolf-monkey has altered senses. He can smell from 20,00km away. He can hear you snore at night. (If you do snore)
He can see like he’s using binoculars! His fur can feel the change in the wind. He can feel you breath. So basically, he can hunt you down like a fish and a cat swimming together.

                  oh no, that poor fishy!

SO WHEN YOU’RE OUT IN THE JUNGLE, BEWARE!

Centripetal Force

Hypothesis:
I predict that some of the water will come out but it will still stay in the bucket. I am bound to get wet though. If you spin left the water will move to the right of the bucket. This will be very fun.

Variables we must control:
Variables
Control
Liquid
Each bucket filled to the second mark to ensure that they have the same amount of water.
Speed
Each person have to spin at the same speed.
In time with each other
Start at the bottom and move your way up as you build speed.
Space
Each person has to have your own space.
Holding the bucket.
Each person has to hold the bucket the same way.

Method:

Results:

Was your prediction correct? Yes. What happened and why? The water was trying to fly out of my hands. I was stuck to the back of the bucket. Gravity didn’t affect the water at all. The water was like it was on wheels in my bucket. The centripetal force was holding the water down. The bucket was really heavy and making it hard to hold. I was spinning so fast!
Round and round,

I go!

Boat or Submarine?

Title  Boat or Submarine
Scientists: Inderpreet and Zeb.

Question/Goal/ problem
What shape of container will hold the most weight ?
My partner and I have decided to go with pan.

Hypothesis (The shape I have chosen and why I think it is the best shape)
Because it has a larger bottom, it can hold more coins and can float.

Materials
Container filled with water, modelling clay, old coins

Method (What I did)
Create a boat out of modelling clay.
I Fill the container with water.
Place the boat carefully onto the water so it floats.
One at a time, put coins carefully into the boat . Count how many coins are in the boat before it sinks.
Observation/ Analyse (What happened and why I think it happened)
It sunk because it got heavier and holes were formed.

Conclusion  (What I discovered about floating/ sinking )

The bigger it is the better it floats and it can hold more coins.

The stuff Inderpreet and I made our boat out of.

Balloon Rocket

Balloon Rocket!

Equipment:
  • 3 balloons (just incase if one or two of them pop)
  • 1 long piece of kite string (about 10-15 feet long)
  • Tape
  • 1 plastic straw

Method:

  1. Tie one end of the string to a chair, door knob, or the other support.
  2. Put the other end of the string through the straw.
  3. Pull the string tight and tie it to another support in the room.
  4. Blow up the balloon (don’t tie it.) Pinch the end of the balloon and tape the balloon to the straw shown below. Now you're ready to launch!
  5. Just let go of the end and watch it zoom off.

    Prediction
Zeb: The balloon will fly across the line.
Tyrone:The balloon will go across the line like a rocket and run out of oxygen or air in it and it will stop.
    Observation
Zeb: The balloon went zooming across the line.
Tyrone: The balloon flew across the string and got from one chair to the other.
    Explanation
Zeb: The air was pushing the balloon across the line.

Tyrone: The air or oxygen comes out of the balloon causing it to move the opposite direction of the end of the balloon.
    Created by Tyrone and Zeb

Speed Boat

Race a Speedboat
Can you make a paper boat race across the water just by gently touching the surface of the water?
Hypothesis The liquid in the washing liquid will make a wave big enough to push the paper boat along.

Materials
Coloured card, washing up liquid, pencil or sharpie, scissors, large container of water.

Method
Get a big container full of water and put a small dab of washing liquid on your finger. Put your boat in the water and place your finger in the water behind your boat.

Observation
The boat moved.

Conclusion
The washing liquid spread out and pushed the paper boat.
Ahoy matey!
Short Experiment to Follow Up
Make Metal Float
Gently place a paperclip on the water’s surface.

Hypothesis

The paper clip will float because of it’s weight.
The paper clip will float, just you wait.

Mathletics

Mathletics Reflection 5/10/13
· Something I was pleased with was I got a really good design.

…because I combined a couple of design to make my mathletics.
· I really enjoyed learning how to get the centre of the page really easy.

…because last year it was a bit difficult.
· Something I found hard was making the measurements as accurate as can be.
· Something that made me think was what design can I combine.
…because there are so many possibilities.
· Something I want to get better at is drawing lighter.
(What can I do about it?)
I can practice at home.

Air Weighs

Air Weighs!
 Equipment:

Ruler, newspaper, table and a someone who can karate chop.

Method:
  1. Put the ruler on the table (balance it) and karate chop it. What will happen?
  2. Get the ruler and do the same but with a screwed up piece of paper on the it like a canon pult.
  3. Karate chop it. What will happen?
  4. Take another piece of paper and make it flat.
  5. Take the ruler and put it under the flat paper.
  6. Karate chop it. What will happen?

Hypothesise:
My hypothesise (guess) is that the ruler will rip the paper.

Results:

The paper did rip but only sometimes. The ruler SNAPPED!
Yeah Crighton!
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Fast as lightning!

It HAS to be flat as a tasty pancake.

He's using the force, Go Mr M!
